📊 How do you engage your marketing agency clients about their ROI? 🤔

As digital marketing professionals, we know that discussing Return on Investment

As digital marketing professionals, we know that discussing Return on Investment (ROI) for clients is crucial. Actually, it is the #1 reason agencies lose clients. But it's not always an easy conversation. 📈

🚀 Small digital marketing agencies, in particular, face the challenge of proving the value of their services and demonstrating the impact they have on their clients' businesses. Perhaps you do not have the technical or analytics resources? Maybe also not the proper reporting tools… these are near and dear to me. 😅

🔍 Here are some strategies that have helped me successfully engage clients about their ROI:

  • Regular Reporting: Consistent ROI reporting keeps clients informed about the progress of their campaigns and helps build trust. A simple 900% ROI followed by the relevant data… not 100s of KPIs.
  • Set Clear Expectations: From the outset, establish clear and realistic ROI expectations. It's about aligning goals and outcomes.
  • Data Transparency: Be open about the data and insights you gather. And find out about their needs and expectations. Transparency builds confidence and helps clients understand the numbers better.
  • Client Education: Educate your clients about the key ROI metrics and the impact of different marketing activities on their business growth.
  • Goal Alignment: Ensure that your marketing efforts are aligned with your client's business objectives.

In the end, it's all about delivering tangible results and fostering a relationship built on trust and collaboration. 💪 Nothing sells and makes a client happy like clear ROI reporting.

When I show my marketing clients more KPI data...their eyes glaze and they tune out.  What to do?

This is an actual statement and question a prospect asked me a few weeks ago.

First, the WRONG answer IMHO. This is what most will do. Then below, the right one… with what clients actually care about.

Wrong Answer:

🚀 Putting the FUN back into KPIs! 🙌✨

✨ Are you tired of seeing your marketing clients lose interest faster than a cheetah on rollerblades when you present them with KPI data? Trust me, I've been there! 🙈 But fear not, my fellow marketing wizards, because today I'm here to save the day with some fantastic tips on how to make your KPI presentations shine! 🌟

🔑 Let's cut to the chase - we all know that tracking and understanding data is crucial in our ever-evolving marketing landscape. However, it can be challenging to keep our clients engaged when their eyes begin to glaze over and they start fantasizing about their lunch break instead. So, how can we rekindle their interest and make our KPIs sparkle like glitter on a unicorn's horn? 🦄✨

👩💼One way to rekindle their interest and make our KPIs sparkle is by presenting the data in a visually appealing and easy-to-understand format. Infographics, charts, and graphs can help simplify complex information and make it more engaging for clients. Additionally, incorporating real-life examples and case studies can help demonstrate the practical applications of the data, making it more relatable and interesting for clients. Finally, regularly updating and sharing progress reports can keep clients invested and excited about the results, showing them the value of tracking and understanding data in their marketing efforts.

Right Answer:
Firstly, stop showing them more data. Ask yourself why?

Yes, shiny reports and graphs are great… I like them. They look so professional… and we all want to be professional. But endless KPIs on click-throughs, page views, keywords, ad conversions, etc., etc. stop being interesting REAL FAST for business owners.

So back to why? Simple. KPIs are marketing agency tools for measuring progress. But as a business owner what I need is more customers and ROI. If I pay you $10,000 what am I getting? What is my ROI?I can guarantee you show your clients their ROI… talk about how you can improve it, or cut off the money bleeding, and they will be loyal and happy clients for a long time. Better for them, better for your agency. How? With ROI reporting as your focus. Campaign #1: 935% ROI… no glazed eyes.
